Architecture

Architecture is the discipline of organizing space at any scale, but mainly that in which human beings live. Simplifying, it can be said that it mainly pertains to the design and construction of a building or the built environment. Technical and artistic aspects concur in it. Together with sculpture, it is part of the so-called plastic visual arts.

For as long as man has had cognitive abilities to organize himself into civilizations, architecture has always existed. Architecture came into being first and foremost to meet man's biological needs such as protection from the elements, and for this very reason it is among the disciplines most prevalent in all civilizations. Only later, with the development of the division of labor in society, secondary functions were added to the primary function in increasing numbers.

With the appearance of aesthetic characters came the emergence of architecture also as a visual art, endowed, however, with its own distinctive characteristics. It would also be reductive to speak of aesthetic values since good architecture is often the result of ethical values and anthropological study.

Defining architecture is difficult because the architectural phenomenon has always been present in human culture, acquiring characteristics, definitions, functions, and spatial and constructive aspects that are often different or even contrasting from civilization to civilization or era to era.[1]
